There are no "official" gaming chip color-denomination standards, but there are some commonly observed ones. Here are some chip colors and commonly associated denominations.
The most consistantly used denominations are red ($5), green ($25) and black ($100). Other chip values, especially high demoninations are more variable. Some casinos may use special denomination chips like $2 or $3 specifically for their $2-4 or $3-6 games. Pink gaming chips are commonly valued at $2.50, but typically restricted to blackjack play. Of course, you can designate any value you want for any chip color and vary them depending on whether you are playing for small or larger stakes or in a regular "cash" game or tournament.
In our Guide to Poker Chips we help you calculate how many poker chips to purchase and help you determine which type of chip is best suited and most affordable for your game.
